REF No. 5475
Japanese arita porcelain candlestick modelled as a seated bijin
Edo period circa 1710
A Japanese Imari figure of a reclining bijin, one hand supporting the body and the other raised and holding a sconce.
This appears to be a rare form with few other examples recorded. Most such figures are standing maidens and possibly this was intended to created a mantel garniture, sitting between a pair of the standing type.
